Hello church family,
What a crazy couple of weeks! I wanted to give you some updates on how our church is moving forward during this time. As of right now our church has cancelled our corporate gathering of services until further notice. We know the church is not a building but a people. We are the church wherever we are: at our jobs, in our homes, at our schools. But we are also a people that gather. The body of Christ has always come together to worship. It will be strange not to be in one another’s physical presence as we worship. I think it is also important to understand that we are not making this decision out of fear but out of love for our neighbor. I am thankful that our state and local governments are working hard to ensure the safety and protection of each individual, especially the weaker and more vulnerable. That is what we have been called to do as Christians, to take care of the least of these.
Thankfully, through modern technology, we have the capability to me more connected than ever, even when we are apart. Starting this Sunday, March 22nd, we will be posting our services to our Facebook page and to our website. I will also be posting some mid-week devotional videos starting next week. Our Sunday services will be posted at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. I encourage you to make it a time of worship with your families. Try to minimize as many distractions as you can. I believe the Lord can really use unique time to help strengthen us as the body of Christ. If you or someone you know does not have access to the internet and would like a copy of the sermons, DVD copies will be made and delivered. Please let us know names and address so we can get them to the individuals.
You have heard me say several times to “go be the church out there”. Now is the time that we really need to step up and be the church in our neighborhoods and communities. We will have many opportunities to meet many needs in the upcoming weeks. Let’s be looking for ways that we can serve and be the hands and feet of Christ. If you hear of a need or a service opportunity that our church may be able to meet, please let us know.
If you or someone you know has a need please don’t hesitate to let us know. Myself and our deacons are here to serve you. If they haven’t already, your deacon should be touching base with you soon. If you don’t know who your deacon is, I will have a link to the list at the bottom of this page. If for whatever reason you are not on the list, please let us know and we will assign you a deacon.
I want to encourage you to please continue giving your tithe during this time. Your generosity is an investment in what God is doing in our church, in our community, and all over the world. Many people will be looking to the church in times of crisis and we have a great opportunity to share the hope of Christ with them. If you have not yet set up online giving, now would be a great time. Click this link to go to our giving page on our website and click the red give online button that will walk you through setting up an account. http://www.fbcbarlow.com/give.html You can make a one-time gift or schedule reoccurring gifts.
Finally, let’s not forget the hope that we have in Christ. No matter what challenges we face. No matter what crises we go through. We have a solid rock in Jesus Christ. He is our fortress he is our foundation that can never be shaken. Our hope and our confidence are unwavering because our hope is in Jesus who never fails!
Psalm 62:5-8
5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
Hopefully I will get to see you sooner rather than later.
In Christ,
Pastor Scott
